PARA COMER ~ FOOD FOR THE SOUL

"...that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me."
John 17:21

Jesus prayed these powerful words for his disciples right before he was betrayed by Judas. A few things grab my attention when I'm reading this whole passage:

1. Jesus prayed.   It still amazes me that the almighty, powerful Son of God who came to this earth in human form, took time to be alone with God and pray. The Bible documents countless times where Jesus turned to God for a variety of circumstances in His life. How much more do I- do we-need to go to Jesus for everything that happens in our life? It further humbles me that Jesus in this passage is praying for His disciples.  He wasn't just praying for His twelve disciples, He was praying for those of us as well that would be the messengers of His word.

2. Jesus' prayer for unity.   This one blows my mind! Jesus doesn't just pray for unity here. He prays for supernatural oneness. He actually desires for us to attain the kind of unity and fellowship He has with the Father.  It's the kind of unity we as believers can only attain through the power of the Holy Spirit working God's purposes in us and through us.

3. Unity leads to the lost BELIEVING Christ.   The last thing I would ever want to do is be a stumbling block for the lost coming to Christ. I realize, however, that many times my pride gets in the way and I just want to be right. Jesus knew that it would be our supernatural UNITY that would set us apart from the rest in the eyes of nonbelievers. Not union. Not uniformity. It is the kind of unity that causes life change in us, as well as in those who do not know Christ.

It is my prayer as you seek to reach your campus that you, like Jesus, can continually go to God in prayer for every need on your campus - from the smallest to the greatest.  I pray also that you can strive for true unity and love on your campus and with other believers so that "the world may believe."

Pray hard.

Here are some great links to help you think about making Prayer a Priority in 3 areas:

* Prayer in your personal life:

- Attributes of God: Try focusing on the attributes of God for a week. Here's a great list of verses that reflect His attributes that you can praise Him for. http://www.godsquad.com/squadroom/prayer/attributes.htm

- Praying for others using scripture - http://www.godsquad.com/squadroom/prayer/script_pr1.htm

* Prayer in your Movement:
- If you don't already have one set up...set up a weekly prayer time. Check out this "How to Lead A Prayer Meeting" resource:

* Prayer for the World:
- Operation World gives us an opportunity to pray for a different country every day. Take one a month and pray for it in your personal time with God or in your ministry prayer meetings. http://www.gmi.org/ow/index.html
