PARA COMER ~ FOOD FOR THE SOUL

The Missing

How do you see the lost, like a Pharisee or like Jesus?

Luke 15:1-10, "Now the tax collectors and "sinners" were all gathering around to hear him. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them." Then Jesus told them this parable: "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Jesus once again finds himself defending his position for spending time with sinners. The Pharisees viewed the lost as contaminated, outcasts, unworthy of the company of the righteous. But as we read the parables we discover Jesus' implied meaning of the lost. He sees them as valuable, something to be treasured, Jesus sees the lost as missing.

How do you view the lost, unworthy of your company, as outcasts, a lost cause? Or do you see with the eyes of Jesus, these are valuable people, these are people missing from the family of God and need to hear the how they can have a relationship with Jesus Christ? Are they treasure to you, so much so you would go to extreme efforts to find the missing? Do you spend time with people who don't know Christ? Did you know God wants you to?

Go find the missing,

Pastor Alex Garcia

PS I've removed the word "lost" from my vocabulary and have replaced it with, people who don't know Christ, pre-Christians, the missing, the valuable, and the treasured. Try it and see what it does to your perspective, your view of others who don't know the love of God.

PARA LLEVAR - IMPACT YOUR WORLD

"THE MISSING"....coming to a theatre near you.....Sounds like a good horror flick!! But what a great picture of the people all around us in our classrooms, in our family, our community, in our group of friends. Spiritually speaking it is a sobering thing to think about those that don't know Christ. Halloween is coming up and it's a great time to connect the missing with the living God.

This week here are 2 ways you can serve the Missing in:

* Personally - pray for someone you know that is missing - that does not know Jesus.

Pray for 2 things:
1 that God would draw them to Himself - that they would be found in Him
2 that He would give you an opportunity to share with them about Jesus. (Take the opportunity)

* On your Campus - Be available as a Destino movement to offer hope and meaning to life during a holiday that often can be surrounded by darkness. We don't have to be completely separate during this holiday, take the opportunity to engage with others with what is on their mind.

Do some "trick or treating"  on campus - Take this week or next that your Destino movement engages with other students on your campus about halloween and the supernatural. Here are some questions or come up with your own that you can print up on a small piece of paper. Give out candy to the students you talk to.

A. When you were growing up did you really believe in ghosts?
B. What did you enjoy most about Halloween?
C. Can supernatural things really occur?
D. Can God cause supernatural things to happen?
E. If you were miraculously beamed up to heaven, why would God want to let you into heaven? Could I share with you this booklet (Knowing God personally/4 spiritual laws) on how you can know God would let you into heaven?
