Take a minute to

Toma un minuto para alimentar tu alma e impactar tu mundo! Part
1: Para Comer ~ Food for the soul PARA COMER ~ FOOD FOR THE SOUL
The Word and Wealth: There are two extremes today about
the connection between God and wealth. One is that wealth and money
are inherently evil and God is opposed to them. The other is that God
is just waiting to shower wealth on those who satisfy certain
expectations that He has. It is a myth that wealth and money are
inherently evil and that God opposes the rich. Deuteronomy
8:18, “But you shall remember the Lord
your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He
may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this
day.” (NASB) Right here, Moses words to the Israelites makes
it clear that God gives us power to make wealth. So, ultimately wealth
is a gift from God and it is not evil. James 1:17, “Every
good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from
the Father of lights…” (NIV)
The other myth about wealth, God is just waiting to shower wealth on those who satisfy certain expectations that He has. Does God reward godliness with material blessing? Not according to the bible. In fact, Paul describes those who teach that as being “robbed of the truth.” They are guilty of fostering a “prosperity theology.” That’s a dangerous view: Listen to his words in I Timothy 6:1-10, “If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.” (NIV)
God wants us to seek Him for His own sake, not for a payoff. If I do this God is going to reward me with physical well-being or financial gain--nope. The reward of loving obedience is a closer relationship to God! He also wants us to be content with what He provides us, not greedy for more, but generous with what we have. Contentment is the key not covetousness. There is nothing wrong with possessing riches, but it is wrong when you are possessed by riches. The issue is; rich or poor are you pursuing God or wealth?
