PARA COMER ~ FOOD FOR THE SOUL
The Cure for Conflict
Humility is
the antidote for conflict
James 4, "But he
gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the
proud but gives grace to the humble…Humble yourselves before the Lord,
and he will lift you up."
God opposes the proud,
He battles against those who are prideful but gives grace to the humble.
The cure for conflict is a humble spirit which is rewarded with
experiencing God's unmerited favor.
The word proud in the Greek means,
placing oneself above others.
A parallel passage is Philippians 2:3-4 tells us how we should treat
others, "Do nothing out of selfish
ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than
yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but
also to the interests of others."
Pride causes us to place ourselves above
others.
Humility causes you and me to consider others better
than ourselves. Humility is not that you consider
yourself as worse than others. But it's to consider others better than
yourself. It is not thinking less of me; it is thinking more of others.
The perfect example of humility is found in John 13:1-17, "Before
the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave
this world and return to his Father. He now showed the disciples the
full extent of his love. It was time for supper, and the Devil had
already enticed Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to carry out his plan to
betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over
everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he
got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his
waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the
disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him…Do
you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You
call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now
that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should
wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as
I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than
his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now
that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."
Jesus taught the true meaning of humility by washing
the feet of His disciples.
Jesus put others first. How do you act like other people are important?
You put others first, you serve and watch the conflict melt away.

PARA LLEVAR – IMPACT YOUR WORLD
1. Are you experiencing conflict with
someone? Take some time of quiet before the Lord, meditate on the
passage above, ask the Lord what He would have you do.
2. Are you experiencing
conflict within your movement? Take some time to talk about it at a
weekly meeting or weekly Bible study. See Link below to an article you
can use and discuss together.
Unresolved conflict can divide
movements, friendships, etc. As the semester draws to a close soon, it's
a good time to evaluate the environment of our movement. Here are some
questions to consider:
*
Is it a place where people are learning how to deal with conflict in
loving ways?
*
Is it an attractive place for new people or a place of much tension?
*
Is it a place where people are depending on the power of the Holy
Spirit?
*
What part do you play in the environment when it comes to conflict?
-
A person who serves the comida to others or stirs the pot with those
involved?
