The Goal of Life

If you're like most believers we get so caught up in discovering God's will for our life, what should I do once I get out of college, what career path does the Lord want for me? And it becomes a daunting endeavor to find exactly what does God want me to do with my life. You're not alone, a lot of people get hung up on this and say, "God, should I do this or do that?"

As I've studied the bible, talked with mentors, friends and peers, the conclusion I have found is in life it's not what you do that matters; it's Who you do it for. Colossians 3:23 reads, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men…"

The Creator made you with certain interests, likes, dislikes, gifts, talents, strengths, and needs. And as His creature the Lord wants you to do whatever your heart desires but are you doing it for Him? Do whatever you want! But do it for Him…be a nurse, a doctor, an attorney, an engineer, a sales person, a manager, a missionary or whatever, God wants you to do it for Him.

Romans 12:1 reads, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship." This is the right heart attitude we need to have, are you offering yourself to God? Are you offering your life to Him? This is the question that needs to be asked in knowing God's will for your life. Answer this question first and apply it to your life and the rest will fall into place…Matthew 6:33, "And He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern."

Now, the greatest mistake you can make in life is to miss your primary purpose. I challenge you to make as the No. 1 goal of your life before everything else to live for the Lord…no matter where you are or what you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. You make as your goal what Paul said in II Corinthians 5:9, "So we make it our goal to please Him." There's not a better goal in life to have than that one right there.

God Bless, Pastor Alex Garcia
